PT Tarakan National Electricity Service (PT PLN Tarakan) is a subsidiary of PT PLN (Persero) domiciled in Tarakan, formed based on the Decree of the Directors of PT PLN (Persero) No. 258-1 / 010 / DIR / 2003 dated 17 October 2003 and legalized based on the Notary Deed H Haryanto SH, MBA No. 18 dated 15 December 2003. Before changing its status to a subsidiary, PT PLN Tarakan was under the organizational structure of PT. From December 15, 2013 to 2016, PLN-T managed electricity on Tarakan Island in an integrated manner including: Primary Energy Provision (Natural Gas & amp; HSD), Electrical Energy Generation (PLTD, PLTMG, PLTG and PLTU), Distribution of Electrical Energy ( Medium Voltage / TM 20 kV and Low Voltage / TR 220 Volt), and Customer Service. PT EMI is engaged in Energy and Environmental Conservation and Renewable Energy and also other electrical business. Established on January 28, 1987 under the name PT Conservation Energi Abadi (KONEBA) and in 1993 changed its status to BUMN through Government Regulation No. 2 in 1993 with 100% participation from the Government of the Republic of Indonesia. On October 12, 2006, it changed its name to PT Energy Management Indonesia (Persero) or known as PT EMI.

Through PP No.65 of 2021 dated May 4, 2021 which was followed up with the issuance of the Deed of Decision of the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders No. 34 dated September 7, 2021 and has been approved by the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia with Decree Number: AHU- AH.01.03-0446464.Year 2021 and Number: AHU-AH.01.03-0446463. On September 9, 2021, PT EMI’s status changed from being a State-Owned Company to become a subsidiary of PT PLN (Persero). PT MCTN was established in 1998 with assets of the North Duri Cogeneration (NDC) generator which started operating in 2000. Initially, MCTN was built to meet the electricity and steam needs in the Duri oil field. PT MCTN was acquired by PT PLN (Persero) on August 6, 2021. As a new subsidiary under PT PLN (Persero), PT MCTN was mandated to develop the electricity business, especially to answer challenges and fulfil electricity needs in the Oil and Gas sector.

To support the Company’s vision and mission, MCTN will take electricity business opportunities in the oil and gas industry as well as develop captive power and renewable energy in line with PLN’s target as the Holding company to pursue the Net Zero Emission target by 2060.
